Khandkar Mohammad Adil Hussain is an Indian actor known for his roles in Indian and international films. He was born on October 5, 1963, in Goalpara, Assam, India. His father was a school headmaster, and he was the youngest of seven children.

Adil Hussain acted in plays during his school days and left home at 18 to study philosophy at B. Borooah College, Guwahati. He started acting in college plays and doing stand-up comedy. Later, he studied at the National School of Drama in Delhi and the Drama Studio London on a scholarship.

After returning to India in 1994, he joined a theater group in Assam called ‘Hengul Theater’ before moving to Delhi. He gained recognition for his role in ‘Othello: A Play in Black and White’ and other stage productions. Adil Hussain has appeared in films in various languages including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Norwegian, and French.

He received National Film Awards for his performances in films like ‘Hotel Salvation’ and ‘Maj Rati Keteki’. Adil Hussain’s notable films include ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’, ‘Life of Pi’, ‘English Vinglish’, and ‘Ishqiya’. He has also appeared in TV series and received acclaim for his work in theater.

In his personal life, Adil Hussain met his wife Kristen Jain during a theater production in 1999 and they got married in 2007.
