James Marsden, born on September 18, 1973, is an American actor and singer. He started acting in TV shows like Saved by the Bell: The New Class, Touched by an Angel, and Party of Five. You might know him as Cyclops in the X-Men movies or from films like The Notebook, Superman Returns, Hairspray, Enchanted, and 27 Dresses. He even played John F. Kennedy in The Butler and starred in Sonic the Hedgehog.
In his early life, Marsden was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma. His parents, Kathleen and James Luther Marsden, got divorced when he was nine. He has two younger sisters and two brothers. He went to Hefner Middle School, Putnam City North High School, and started studying broadcast journalism at Oklahoma State University. But, he left college after a year and a half to pursue acting in Los Angeles.
Marsden’s career began in the 1990s with roles in shows like The Nanny, Boogies Diner, Saved by the Bell, and Party of Five. He later got big roles in the X-Men movies and other successful films like The Notebook and Hairspray.
From 2016 to 2022, he starred in Westworld and from 2019 to 2022 in Dead to Me. Marsden has been in various TV shows and movies, and he even played a version of himself in the mockumentary series Jury Duty in 2023.
In his personal life, Marsden got married to Mary Elizabeth “Lisa” Linde in 2000, and they had two kids before divorcing in 2011. He also has a son with model Rose Costa born in 2012. Currently, he is set to star in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story in 2024.
