Sophie Wilde, born on February 22, 1998, is an actress from Australia. She studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and first became known for her roles in the 2021 TV shows Eden and You Don’t Know Me. Her performance in the 2022 horror movie Talk to Me made her famous worldwide, and she won the AACTA Award for Best Actress. This success led to her being nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award and receiving the Trophée Chopard in 2024.
She has acted in the fantasy movie The Portable Door and starred in TV shows like Tom Jones, Everything Now (both in 2023), and Boy Swallows Universe (2024).
Wilde was born in 1998 to an Ivorian mother, Monalisa, and an Australian father, Simon. She has a younger brother and grew up in Enmore, Sydney. Her grandparents took her to many theater shows, operas, and musicals as a child. She started drama classes at NIDA and the Australian Theatre for Young People when she was five.
She went to Newtown High School of the Performing Arts and later studied acting at NIDA, graduating in 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting. In 2014, Wilde and her father went missing during a trip to the Himalayas due to a snowstorm but were found safe after nine days.
In 2020, Wilde played Ophelia in Hamlet with Bell Shakespeare and was named a Rising Star by the Casting Guild of Australia. In 2021, she made her TV debut as Scout in Eden and starred as Kyra in the BBC series You Don’t Know Me, practicing her English accent for the role.
Wilde’s first movie role was in the horror film Talk to Me, shown at the 2022 Adelaide Film Festival and 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Critics praised her performance, and she won the AACTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and was nominated for several other awards.
In August 2022, she was cast as Mia Polanco in the Netflix series Everything Now, released in 2023. That same year, she starred in the period drama Tom Jones and the fantasy movie The Portable Door. In 2024, she was nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award and played a reporter in Boy Swallows Universe. She will also star in the upcoming movie Babygirl and a live-action adaptation of the video game Watch Dogs.
