David Leland, ‘Wish You Were Here’ Director, Dies at 82

The British theater, film and TV writer-director had a five decade career.

David Leland, a famous British writer and director who made movies and TV shows, passed away when he was 82 years old on Christmas Eve. He’s best known for his first movie, “Wish You Were Here,” which came out in 1987.

He started as an actor and then became a director. He worked with well-known British actors like Michael Palin, Terry Jones, and Pierce Brosnan. Pierce Brosnan got his start in acting thanks to David when he directed a play where Brosnan acted for the first time.

Leland wrote and directed movies. He made films about Cynthia Payne, a famous British lady, and also directed shows like “Band of Brothers” and “The Borgias” on TV.

Many British actors who worked with him shared kind words after his passing. Liam Neeson, Tim Roth, and others remembered him fondly.

David Leland is survived by his wife, Sabrina, four daughters, a son, and six grandchildren.
