Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, a well-known writer and director from India, began his career by helping with creative ideas for Anurag Kashyap’s famous movie, Black Friday. His first movie as a director, Salunn, was shown for the first time at the Cairo Film Festival in 2009. It won the Remi Award for Best Comedy Film at the Worldfest Houston Film Festival and the Golden Ace Award for a Special Cinematic Experience at the Las Vegas Film Festival.
After that success, Nikhil directed the Netflix movie Brij Mohan Amar Rahe, which premiered at the SAIFF (New York). He also worked on series like Rasbhari, available on Prime Video and produced by Applause, and The Gone Game, a series made during lockdown that got a lot of praise from critics and viewers in India and abroad. His earlier film, Hurdang, starring Sunny Kaushal and produced by T-Series and Karma Pictures, came out in theaters in 2022 and is now on Netflix.
Nikhil’s recent film, Apurva, made with Cine1 Studios and released as a Disney Plus Hotstar Original, was well-liked by critics and was one of the top five most-watched films on OTT platforms in India in 2023. His next movie, Kill, an action film co-produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023 and will come out on July 5th, 2024. Kill is the first Indian film to be picked up by Lionsgate Studios for release in the US and UK.
