Scott Beck (born October 22, 1984) and Bryan Woods (born September 14, 1984) are American filmmakers. They wrote the story for and co-wrote the post-apocalyptic sci-fi horror movie A Quiet Place (2018). They also wrote and directed the supernatural thriller Nightlight (2015), the slasher film Haunt (2019), and the sci-fi action thriller 65 (2023).

Scott Beck was born in Denver, Colorado, and Bryan Woods was born in Davenport, Iowa. They both grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa. They met at the University of Iowa, where they started Bluebox Films and made the movies Her Summer and University Heights. They won MTVU’s Best Film on Campus competition with one of their films, which led to a deal with MTV Films.

In 2015, they wrote and directed Nightlight, which was released by Lionsgate. In 2016, they sold their original screenplay for A Quiet Place to Paramount Pictures. The film, starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski (who also directed and co-wrote it), was released in April 2018. It was a big hit, earning a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and making over $330 million worldwide.

They also wrote and directed Haunt, produced by Eli Roth. In June 2018, they signed on to write and executive-produce a movie adaptation of Stephen King’s short story The Boogeyman for 20th Century Fox and 21 Laps Entertainment. Beck and Woods also developed the TV series Zeroes for Sony Pictures Television and Davis Entertainment, based on a novel by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan, and Deborah Biancotti.

In May 2020, it was announced that they would write, direct, and produce 65 for Sony Pictures and producer Sam Raimi. The film stars Adam Driver.

In June 2023, it was reported that Hugh Grant would star in Beck and Woods’ next movie, Heretic, which they wrote, directed, and produced for A24.

Beck and Woods co-own The Last Picture House, an independent arthouse cinema in Davenport, Iowa.
