Seth Gordon

Seth Lewis Gordon is an American filmmaker who directs, produces, writes scripts, and edits films. He has worked on movies and TV shows for PBS, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the United Nations. His films have been shown at big festivals like Sundance and Slamdance. Some of his notable films include The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007), Four Christmases (2008), Horrible Bosses (2011), Identity Thief (2013), and Baywatch (2017).

Gordon grew up in Evanston, Illinois. He went to Yale University to study architecture but left in 1997 to teach high school in Kenya for six months. While there, he helped get funding from the United Nations to finish building a school and started filming what became the documentary Building Shimanyiro. When he got back to Yale, he taught himself to edit film footage. He got noticed for his documentary The King of Kong.

In addition to films, Gordon directed Zynga’s “GagaVille” online film in 2010. He co-created and produced the TV show Breaking In. He directed Horrible Bosses in 2011 but decided not to direct the sequel in 2013 because he was busy with The Goldbergs and a remake of WarGames. Gordon also directed the first episode of Sneaky Pete for Amazon Studios.

Gordon’s most recent big project was directing the 2017 Baywatch movie with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. He graduated from Lakeside School in Seattle in 1994 and later from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

On TV, Gordon developed and directed a series about cybercrime called H*Commerce: The Business of Hacking You. He’s directed music videos, commercials, and episodes of shows like Modern Family, The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Marry Me. He’s an executive producer on The Goldbergs and Atypical.
