Gary Oldman Says His Performance in the ‘Harry Potter’ Films Was “Mediocre”

The actor Gary Oldman talked about why he’s tough on himself when he looks at his acting in movies. He thinks he could’ve done better in the Harry Potter movies, where he played Sirius Black. He said he might’ve acted differently if he knew more about the story from the books. He wishes he could’ve known what happens next as his co-star Alan Rickman did with his character.

But it’s not just Harry Potter movies he criticizes. Oldman finds it hard to like his work because he always wants to improve. He thinks it’s essential to try and do better in the next thing he does. When people say they like his acting, he sometimes disagrees because he sees things differently.

He first played Sirius Black in 2004 and appeared in two more Harry Potter movies before his character died in 2007.

In an interview, Oldman also joked that he was disappointed his character died early in the story. He thought it might’ve been another character, not his.

He mentioned in another talk show that his roles in Harry Potter and Batman movies helped him a lot when he became a single dad. He was thankful for these roles because they meant he could earn enough money with less time away from his kids.
