Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a new funny movie from America. It’s about ghosts and is directed by Gil Kenan with some help from Jason Reitman. This movie is connected to the other Ghostbusters movies and comes after Ghostbusters: Afterlife. It’s the fifth movie in the Ghostbusters series.

The movie has actors like Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, and some old favorites like Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton. New actors Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt join too. The story is about the old Ghostbusters team and new members working together in New York City to stop a powerful ghost.

After Ghostbusters: Afterlife did well, Sony Pictures said they’d make another movie in April 2022. Jason Reitman was going to direct again, but later, Gil Kenan took over in December. Everyone from the old cast came back, and they added new actors like Oswalt, Nanjiani, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind. They started filming in March 2023 and finished in June. This movie is unique because it’s the first one made without Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two and helped with the others until he passed away in February 2022. Frozen Empire is dedicated to him.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire comes out in the United States on March 29, 2024, by Sony Pictures Releasing.

Premise of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family moves from Summerville, Oklahoma, back to the famous New York City firehouse. They want to help the original Ghostbusters, who have a secret lab for fighting ghosts. But things go wrong when they find an old thing that brings a dangerous force called the Death Chill. The new and old Ghostbusters must work together to save the world from this icy danger that could change history by causing a second Ice Age.

After Ghostbusters: Afterlife came out in November 2021, Dan Aykroyd said he wants the original Ghostbusters team to act in three more movies.

In April 2022, Sony Pictures said they’re starting to make another Ghostbusters movie after Afterlife.

In June 2022, director Jason Reitman confirmed a new movie called Firehouse. They said it will happen in New York City. The release date was set for December 20, 2023. Mckenna Grace said she’ll be in it again on October 5, 2022. Ernie Hudson mentioned he read the script in November.

Later, in December 2022, they said Gil Kenan would be the new director, but Reitman remains a writer and producer. They also said Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon will come back. Then, in March 2023, they added Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind to the cast.

Nanjiani said they got ideas for this movie from The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. They wanted it to feel like an extended episode from that show.

Release

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will come out on March 29, 2024, instead of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. It was supposed to be out in December 2023 but moved to July 2023 and March 2024.

Sony made deals with Netflix and Disney in April 2021. Netflix gets to stream the movies first, starting about a year and a half after they’re out. Disney gets to stream them later on Disney+ and Hulu and show them on their TV channels.
