Joaquin Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck, also known as the Joker. He’s a man who’s not treated well by society because he’s mentally ill and destitute. He used to work as a clown and a comedian but has a history of being hurt both physically and mentally. This made him turn into a criminal who doesn’t believe in anything and has a clown-like identity.

Lady Gaga is Dr. Harleen Quinzel, also known as Harley Quinn. She’s a doctor who was supposed to help Arthur but becomes very interested in him. Eventually, she becomes obsessed with him, and they start a dangerous romantic relationship.

Zazie Beetz plays Sophie Dumond. She’s a single mom who used to live near Arthur.

The movie “Joker” was supposed to be just one film without any more parts. But the company that made it, Warner Bros., wanted to start a new series of movies called DC Black. These movies would be different from the usual superhero movies and more like the darker comics from DC. At first, the director said there could be a sequel if people liked the movie and the leading actor, Joaquin Phoenix, wanted to do it too. But later, he said they never planned for a sequel, even though Joaquin Phoenix was more interested in exploring the character. He got paid $20 million for his role.

There needed to be more clarity about whether a sequel was happening. Some reports said yes, but others said no, and that talks hadn’t started. The director said he had discussed it with the studio, but something was still being determined. He also said the Batman movie coming out wouldn’t be connected to “Joker.” He did mention being curious about a Batman movie from the same world as “Joker,” but he wasn’t sure if he’d be involved. Later on, it was confirmed that a sequel was indeed in the works. It was called “Joker: Folie à Deux,” and the director worked on the script.

Filming for the movie started in December 2022. The director, Phillips, shared a sneak peek on Instagram, and Lawrence Sher was the cinematographer. She inspired the movie’s look from a film called “One From the Heart.” They filmed outside in Los Angeles and New York until March 2023. Lady Gaga filmed a scene with a big group of people outside a courthouse, and some folks thought it was an actual arrest nearby. They used an old hospital in New Jersey for scenes at Arkham Asylum. In April 2023, they filmed at the “Joker Stairs” in the Bronx, which was in the first movie too. They finished filming on April 5, 2023, using unique cameras called IMAX for some parts of the movie.
