Kanguva, also called Kanguva: A Mighty Valiant Saga, is a new movie from India. It’s a big action movie set in the past, directed by Siva and written by Adi Narayana. People like K. E. Gnanavel Raja, V. Vamsi Krishna Reddy, and Pramod Uppalapati are making it happen through Studio Green and UV Creations. Suriya, Disha Patani, Bobby Deol, and other actors are the main stars.
They started planning this movie in April 2019 as Suriya’s 39th movie. They started preparing for it in January 2021, but it got delayed because the director, Siva, had to work on another movie first. They planned to start filming after Suriya finished another movie called Soorarai Pottru in 2020. But things got shuffled around. In the end, the movie got put on hold for a while. Then, in January 2022, Suriya said they were still working on it. There were some issues with the budget, and one producer left, but then another one joined, and they teamed up to make it happen.
They officially said they were making the movie again in August, calling it Suriya 42 because it’s Suriya’s 42nd lead role. They started filming in Chennai in August 2022 and plan to finish by November 2023. They’re shooting in places like Goa, Kerala, Kodaikanal, and Rajahmundry. They revealed the title ‘Kanguva’ in April 2023. Devi Sri Prasad, Vetri Palanisamy, and Nishadh Yusuf are working on the music, camera, and editing. It’s a big-budget movie, costing around ₹300–350 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever.

There were talks about Suriya teaming up with a director named Siva after a successful movie called Viswasam by Siva. This new movie was going to be produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja from Studio Green. They’d been planning this for a while, and Siva had promised to make a movie with Studio Green for over a year.
Announcement and Changes
On April 22, 2019, they announced the movie, initially called Suriya 39. It was going to be Suriya’s 39th main role movie. Studio Green was set to produce it, but it got delayed because Suriya was working on another film called Soorarai Pottru. They were thinking of casting Nayanthara opposite Suriya, and the movie was said to be a family drama set in a village, much like Siva’s earlier film.
But things changed. Siva got a chance to direct Rajinikanth’s 168th film, which became Annaatthe. Rajinikanth asked Suriya if they could delay their movie, and Suriya agreed. They planned to start filming in November 2021, but because Siva was busy with Rajinikanth’s film promotions, that didn’t happen. Eventually, the movie Suriya 39 became Jai Bhim.
Getting Ready to Shoot
The director, Siva, had started planning the movie in January 2021, but due to COVID-19, everything got delayed. Sets were being built in Chennai in September, and by January 2022, Suriya confirmed they were still making the movie.
Changes in Crew
There were talks about changing the music director, and eventually, they picked Devi Sri Prasad for the music. The movie’s production switched from Studio Green to UV Creations due to its high cost.
Starting Again
The film was officially launched as Suriya 42 in August 2023. They decided to work together, and the team began their journey. They named the movie “Kanguva.”
Actors on Board
Disha Patani was chosen as the main actress, and there was news that Suriya would appear in 13 different looks in the movie. Many other actors joined, like Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, Ravi Raghavendra, K. S. Ravikumar, B. S. Avinash, Bobby Deol, and Natarajan Subramaniam.
Filming Begins
They had plans to start shooting in different places, but due to various reasons, the dates kept changing. They finally began shooting in Chennai and Goa, with some parts filmed in different timelines and locations. Suriya worked hard to get a six-pack look for the movie.
The filming went through many schedules in different places like Chennai, Goa, Kodaikanal, and EVP Film City. They shot action sequences, songs, and other scenes. They faced some challenges, like leaked footage from the sets and even Suriya getting injured during a fight scene.
Moving Forward
They started post-production work in Mumbai, focusing on special effects, and the music was composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
Release Plans
The movie is set to release in early 2024 in 3D and IMAX formats in multiple languages, and there’s been a lot of business deals made even before the release. Pen Studios will distribute the Hindi version of the movie.
Big Money Moves
The movie has made a lot of money before even hitting the screens, with rights being sold for massive amounts, setting records in the Tamil film industry.
