Mean Girls is a funny movie with singing and dancing. It was made in America in 2024 by directors Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. This was their first big movie. Tina Fey wrote the story. It’s based on a play based on a book by Rosalind Wiseman. The movie has Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Auliʻi Cravalho, and Christopher Briney in it. Like in the first movie, Tina Fey and Tim Meadows are in it, too.
The movie was planned in 2020 by Paramount Pictures. Tina Fey wrote the story again and helped make the movie. The music from the play was used, and they made new music for it too. They picked the actors in 2022 and filmed it in New Jersey in 2023. At first, they wanted to show it on the Paramount+ streaming service, but then they decided to put it in theatres first.
The movie came out in New York City on January 8, 2024. It will be in theaters by Paramount Pictures on January 12, 2024.

Development of Mean Girls
2013 Tina Fey said they would make a musical version of Mean Girls. The musical started in 2017 in Washington, D.C. Then, in 2018, it moved to Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre. Fey wrote the story for the musical, her husband, Jeff Richmond, made the music, and Nell Benjamin wrote the words for the songs. Critics liked the show, and it got nominated for twelve awards at the Tony Awards.
In January 2020, Fey said they were working on turning the musical into a movie. In September 2021, Arturo Perez Jr. and Samantha Jayne agreed to direct the movie. They have yet to run a movie before Michaels, who made the first Mean Girls movie, will produce this musical movie, too. He’ll work with Broadway Video and Fey’s company, Little Stranger.
Casting of Mean Girls
In October 2020, Tina Fey said fans could help pick actors for a new movie by suggesting their favourite cast members. They could also get featured in a special part of the movie. Then, in May 2021, she mentioned that the original actors from the stage show might not play their roles again.
Later, in December 2022, Angourie Rice, Auliʻi Cravalho, and Jaquel Spivey got picked to play Cady, Janis, and Damian. Reneé Rapp, who played Regina before, got chosen to play her again.
In February 2023, they announced Christopher Briney, Bebe Wood, and Avantika Vandanapu would play Aaron, Gretchen, and Karen. Tina Fey and Tim Meadows will play their old characters from the first movie. Jenna Fischer will be Cady’s mom, and Busy Philipps will play Regina’s mom. Ashley Park will have a small part in the film.
Then, in March 2023, Mahi Alam, Connor Ratliff, and Jon Hamm joined to play Kevin, Mr. Rapp, and Coach Carr. In December 2023, Rachel McAdams talked with Tina Fey about a small role in the movie, but it didn’t happen.
Music
Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin changed their songs from the stage show for the movie. Jeff Richmond made the music for the movie, too. Reneé Rapp helped write a new song called “What Ifs” for Cady.
The music from the movie will come out on January 12, 2024, by Interscope Records. There are twelve songs from the movie on the album. Also, there’s a song called “Not My Fault” by Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion. It came out as a single on December 15, 2023.
Release
The movie was going to be only on a streaming service called Paramount+. Then, they decided to show it in movie theatres instead. It would come out on a streaming service, but now it will be in theatres.
The movie was first shown to people in New York City on January 8, 2024. Lindsay Lohan, who acted in the movie from 2004, was there too. The movie will officially come out in theatres on January 12, 2024, by Paramount Pictures.
