About Daddio
Daddio is a movie made in 2023. It’s a drama about a family. Christy Hall wrote and directed the film, making it her first big movie. The actors in the film are Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn. Dakota Johnson not only acted but also helped produce the movie.
Premise of Daddio
After arriving at JFK Airport, a young woman catches a taxi to her apartment in Manhattan. While they drive, she and the cab driver, Clark, have very honest talks about different things, like their past relationships, their lives now, and personal topics such as love, loss, and how they feel.

Production
Originally, the story started as a play. In October 2017, they said Daisy Ridley would be in the movie, based on a script by Christy Hall. By December of that year, the script was recognized as one of the best unmade scripts in Hollywood. Then, in June 2021, they announced that Johnson replaced Ridley and that Penn would also be in the movie. Johnson actually suggested Penn and sent him the script.
They filmed the movie in New York City and Hoboken, New Jersey, in December 2022, finishing in just 16 days. By January 2023, they started working on the movie after filming.
All the scenes inside the cab were filmed in a studio using a special technology called On-set virtual production. This uses big LED screens to show digital backgrounds in real-time while actors act in front of them.
Release
Daddio first showed at the Telluride Film Festival on September 1, 2023. It was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2023, as part of a special program. In September 2023, Sony Pictures Classics got the rights to show the film in North and Latin America, plus some parts of Europe and Asia. They plan to release it in theaters in 2024. The movie is set to come out on June 28, 2024.
