“My Dead Friend Zoe” is a 2024 American movie that mixes comedy and drama about war. It was written by Kyle Hausmann-Stokes and A. J. Bermudez, and directed by Hausmann-Stokes. The film stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales, Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman, Gloria Reuben, and Utkarsh Ambudkar. It’s based on a short film called “Merit x Zoe” by Hausmann-Stokes, and it’s his first time directing a full-length movie. The movie premiered at the South by Southwest festival on March 9, 2024, where it won the Audience Award. It will be released in theaters in the United States on November 1, 2024, by Briarcliff Entertainment.

Production of My Dead Friend Zoe
Variety reports that this is the first movie partly funded using tax credits from Biden’s 2022 IRA for renewable energy. Mike Field and Ray Maiello at Radiant Media Studios created this new funding method. Maiello also produced the film. Radiant Media Studios got Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce to join the project as an executive producer, which is his first time in that role. Legion M helped fund the film through their crowdfunding model.
In May 2023, it was announced that Harris, Martin-Green, and Morales were cast in the movie. In June 2023, Freeman, Reuben, and Ambudkar joined the cast. Filming took place in Portland, Oregon, Forest Grove, Oregon, and Molalla, Oregon in 2023.
Filming finished in September 2023.
