About Nickel Boys
Nickel Boys is a new movie from America. It’s a drama set in the past and is based on a book called The Nickel Boys, written by Colson Whitehead in 2019. The movie was directed by RaMell Ross, who also helped write the story with Joslyn Barnes. It stars Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Ethan Herisse, Fred Hechinger, Hamish Linklater, Brandon Wilson, and Daveed Diggs.
This movie will come out in theaters for a short time on October 25, 2024, by Amazon MGM Studios.
Premise
Nickel Boys is about a place called the Dozier School for Boys in Florida in the 1960s. This school was really bad to the kids who went there. The story follows Elwood Curtis, a young Black boy who gets sent to a made-up version of this school called the Nickel Academy, even though he didn’t do anything wrong. At Nickel, he becomes friends with another boy named Turner. They stick together and try to make it through the terrible things that happen at the school and deal with the people in charge who are dishonest.

Production
In October 2020, they said they’ll make a movie from Colson Whitehead’s book, The Nickel Boys. RaMell Ross will be the director, it’s his first time directing a big movie. Joslyn Barnes helped write and make the movie, and Whitehead helped too. Aunjanue Ellis, Ethan Herisse, Fred Hechinger, Hamish Linklater, and Brandon Wilson are in the movie.
They spent about $23.2 million to make the movie, without counting tax breaks. They filmed it from October to December 2022 in Louisiana. They filmed in places like LaPlace, New Orleans, Hammond, and Ponchatoula. They even used an office building in Thibodaux for a scene in December.
Release
The movie will be shown in some theaters by Amazon MGM Studios on October 25, 2024.
