The new movie, “28 Years Later,” is a sequel to the films “28 Days Later” from 2002 and “28 Weeks Later” from 2007.
Danny Boyle is directing this movie. It will come out in the summer of 2025. Sony Pictures shared this news on Friday.
The story follows after the events of “28 Days Later” and “28 Weeks Later.” Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are writing the script. They plan to start a new trilogy with this movie.
Boyle and Garland are also producing the film. Andrew Macdonald and Peter Rice are returning as producers, along with Bernie Bellew joining the team. Cillian Murphy, who starred in the first film, is also an executive producer.
In the original “28 Days Later,” Murphy played a bike messenger who wakes from a coma to find the world overrun by a dangerous virus that turns people into violent killers. The second film focused on military efforts to control the virus in London.
“28 Days Later” was a big success and helped revive interest in zombie movies. Many other zombie films and TV shows followed its lead.
We don’t know much about the plot of “28 Years Later” yet. The movie will be in theaters on June 20, 2025.
