MadRiver Gets International Backing for Mid-Budget Genre Slate

MadRiver Pictures, along with CAA Media Finance, made a deal to get funding and share movies with big indie film companies. They will finance a group of movies that cost between $25 million and $75 million each.

In this deal, MadRiver will sell the rights to these movies to international partners before making them. This money will help them make the movies and decide to make them before selling them in the U.S.

They plan to make 2-3 movies every year, focusing on action, thriller, and adventure films with famous actors. These are popular overseas but can be hard to sell in the U.S.

MadRiver’s international partners include companies from Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Latin America, Japan, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Each partner gets rights to show the movies in their area. CAA Media Finance and MadRiver’s sister company The Veterans will sell the movies to the rest of the world.

Marc Butan, MadRiver’s founder, said this deal helps actors feel confident about their movies getting made and shown well in theaters.

Butan and CAA Media Finance started this project with help from The Veterans. MadRiver will soon announce the first movie they’ll make under this deal at the Cannes Film Market. They plan to start filming this fall.
