The actor David Corenswet will play Superman in a new film by James Gunn, which is the first movie in the DC Studios series.
James Gunn recently shared a picture of Corenswet in the Superman costume on social media.
It’s a big deal to see an actor in the Superman costume for the first time, like when we get the first glimpse of a new James Bond. Only three actors have played Superman in movies over almost 50 years: Christopher Reeve (1978-87), Brandon Routh (2006), and Henry Cavill (2013-2022). We’re not counting the older serials from the late 1940s and early ’50s that were shown in movie theaters.
Corenswet is known for his work on TV, especially with Ryan Murphy in shows like “The Politician” and “Hollywood.” Playing Superman could make him even more famous.
This film is important for DC Studios because it’s starting a new series of movies at a time when superhero movies have faced challenges. It’s also James Gunn’s first time directing a big superhero movie. He’s famous for turning lesser-known characters into popular ones with the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies at Marvel Studios.
In addition to David Corenswet as Superman, the movie also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Holt as Lex Luthor. There are many other actors in the cast too, like Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), and more.
