Chips Hardy, who wrote “Tattoo,” is turning Shaun Pinner’s true story, “Live. Fight. Survive.,” into a movie. It’s about Shaun Pinner, a British soldier, and his time in Ukraine during Russia’s invasion in 2022.
The film, tentatively titled “The English Warrior,” will be made by United Heroes, a British and Ukrainian production team. Shaun Pinner wrote a book about his intense experience fighting in Mariupol, Ukraine. He was outnumbered and outgunned by Russian troops, eventually getting captured and held as a prisoner of war. The title of the book, “Live. Fight. Survive.,” comes from the last message his wife gave him before he was captured.
Chips Hardy, known for creating the show “Taboo,” is adapting Pinner’s book for the movie. He said, “It’s an amazing story of human strength from a war happening right near us.”
Shaun Pinner hopes the film will raise awareness about the suffering caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He wants people to understand what’s really happening there from his firsthand experience.
The movie is being produced by Egor Olesov, Johannes Boesiger, and Alexa Waugh for United Heroes.
