Premise of The Book of Clarence
Clarence, a man having a hard time in A.D. 33 Jerusalem, tries to pretend he’s a new messenger from God, like Jesus, to get rid of his debts and become famous.

Production
In May 2022, Jeymes Samuel said his next movie would be “The Book of Clarence.” He chose LaKeith Stanfield to play the main character. Samuel said he got inspiration from old movies about stories from the Bible, like “The Ten Commandments,” “The Greatest Story Ever Told,” “Samson and Delilah,” and “Ben-Hur.”
Later in October, Omar Sy joined the team, and Legendary Entertainment took on the project. In December, more actors joined, including RJ Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
A bunch of talented people will help make the movie. Rob Hardy will handle the camera work, Tom Eagles will edit, Peter Walpole will design the sets, and Jeymes Samuel will create the music.
They started filming in November 2022 in Matera, Italy.
Release
The Book of Clarence had its first showing to the world at the 67th London Film Festival on October 11, 2023. People got to watch it before it’s shown in cinemas on January 12, 2024. They were planning to release it on September 22, 2023, but something happened, and they had to wait. They didn’t say what caused the delay, though.
