The Tigers Apprentice is a new cartoon movie from America. It’s based on a book from 2003 by Laurence Yep with the same name. Paramount Animation and Jane Startz Productions made the movie. Raman Hui is the director, and Paul Watling and Yong Duk Jhun helped. The people who wrote the story are David Magee and Christopher Yost. The movie has voices from actors like Henry Golding, Lucy Liu, Brandon Soo Hoo, Bowen Yang, Jo Koy, Sherry Cola, Leah Lewis, Sandra Oh, and Michelle Yeoh.
Before, Cartoon Network wanted to make a live-action and computer-generated mix for TV, but it didn’t happen. In 2019, Paramount got the rights for an animated film. Carlos Baena was going to be the director, and Mikros Animation was going to do the animation. The people who talk in the movie were announced between 2020 and 2022 after Henry Golding joined in July 2020. Raman Hui became the director in January 2022. Steve Jablonsky made the music.
The plan was to show the movie in theatres by Paramount Pictures, but because of COVID-19, it got delayed many times. Now, it will be on Paramount+ on February 2, 2024.
Synopsis
The movie is about a boy named Tom Lee. He is Chinese American. Tom has a particular job: he has to keep a phoenix egg safe.

Production of The Tigers Apprentice
Development
In October 2008, Cartoon Network said they would make a movie from Laurence Yep’s book “The Tigers Apprentice.” The movie was supposed to come out in 2010, but it has yet to happen.
Then, in March 2019, Paramount Pictures said they would make an animated movie from the same book. It was supposed to come out in February 2022, but they later said it would be in February 2023 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In June 2019, Paramount Animation said Carlos Baena would direct the movie. David Magee and Harry Cripps would write the story, Jane Startz would produce it, and Raman Hui and Kane Lee would be executive producers.
In January 2022, they changed the director to Raman Hui, with Paul Watling and Yong Duk Jhun helping. Bob Persichetti would produce it, and Carlos Baena would still be an executive producer.
Casting
In July 2020, they picked Henry Golding to act as Mr. Hu in the movie. Then, in September 2020, Sandra Oh got a role as Mistral, and they also chose Michelle Yeoh, Brandon Soo Hoo, Bowen Yang, Sherry Cola, and Kheng Hua Tan to be in the movie, but they didn’t say what roles they would play. In November 2020, Leah Lewis got a part as Räv. Then, in July 2022, they told everyone that Lucy Liu would have a significant role in the movie. Finally, in December 2023, they released the trailer and shared that Deborah S. Craig, Jo Koy, Greta Lee, Diana Lee Inosanto, Patrick Gallagher, and Poppy Lui joined the cast.
Animation
Mikros Image Europe is making the animation for this movie. It’s the second time they’re working with Paramount Animation after they worked together on Sherlock Gnomes in 2018.
Music
In December 2023, they said that Steve Jablonsky would make the music for the movie.
Release
The Tigers Apprentice was supposed to come out in theatres on February 11, 2022, but because of COVID-19, it got delayed a few times. First, it was moved to February 10, 2023, then to December 20, 2023, and later to January 19, 2024. But in September 2023, they decided not to show it in theatres anymore. Instead, it will be released on Paramount+ someday in 2024. In December 2023, they shared the movie’s trailer and finally told us when it would be available. You can watch The Tigers Apprentice on Paramount+ starting February 2, 2024.
