Development of Twisters
In June 2020, they said they’d make a new Twister movie. Joseph Kosinski might be the director. Frank Marshall and Sara Scott would produce it. Then, in June 2021, Helen Hunt wanted to make a follow-up to the first movie. But the studio said no because her character dies in the following story.
In October 2022, they announced a movie called Twisters. Mark L. Smith wrote it, and Frank Marshall would produce it. They were talking to Jimmy Chin, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Dan Trachtenberg, and Travis Knight to direct. They hoped Helen Hunt would return, and the movie might focus on her and Bill Paxton’s characters’ daughter. This movie is about climate change. Smith, the writer, said they talked to experts about storms and tornadoes. He said climate change makes hurricanes more powerful and changes where they happen. Lee Isaac Chung was hired to direct in December.
This new movie is a significant team effort. Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. Pictures, Amblin Entertainment, and the Kennedy/Marshall Company work together on it.
Casting of Twisters
In March 2023, Daisy Edgar-Jones got the central part in the show. Then, Glen Powell and Anthony Ramos joined the team in April 2023. In May 2023, more people like Brandon Perea, Daryl McCormack, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, and David Corenswet were also told to be part of the show.
Filming
They planned to make a movie costing about $200 million. They started filming in May 2023 in Oklahoma City. They would film 40 days at Prairie Surf Studios and 50 days around Oklahoma City. They also filmed in places like Chickasha, Okarche, El Reno, Spencer, and Cashion. But they had to stop filming in July because of a strike. They started again in November after the strike ended and finished filming the next month.
Release
The movie will appear in the United States through Universal Pictures on July 19, 2024. It’ll also be released in other countries by Warner Bros. Pictures.
