D50 is the working title for an upcoming Indian Tamil-language movie. Dhanush, who’s in the lead role, wrote and directed it. This movie marks his 50th time as the lead actor. Sun Pictures produced it, and it’s Dhanush’s second time running after Pa Paandi in 2017. The cast includes S. J. Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Nithya Menen, and Kalidas Jayaram.
They announced the film officially in January 2023, calling it D50 for now. They started filming in Chennai in July 2023. A. R. Rahman is making the music, Om Prakash is the cinematographer, and Prasanna GK is the editor.

Development
In January 2023, there were reports that Kalanithi Maran from Sun Pictures would produce Dhanush’s second movie as a director.[3] Then, on January 18, Sun Pictures officially announced their new project with Dhanush directing. They called it D50 for now.[4]
Dhanush asked A. R. Rahman to create the music for the film. This is Rahman’s fourth time making music for a movie with Dhanush. They’ve worked together on movies like Maryan (2013), Raanjhanaa (2013), and Atrangi Re (2021). Dhanush kept most of the team from his film Thiruchitrambalam (2022), including editor Prasanna GK, cinematographer Om Prakash, art director Jacki, and costume designer Kavya Sriram.
Casting
Before the big announcement, Vishnu Vishal and S. J. Suryah were rumoured to be the main actors in the film, with Dhanush making a shorter appearance. Afterwards, Vishnu confirmed his part but had to leave because of timing issues. Then, Sundeep Kishan, who worked with Dhanush in Captain Miller (2023), was revealed to join the cast. In June, it was confirmed that Suryah would take on the lead role. Aparna Balamurali and Dushara Vijayan were also announced to be part of the movie around the same time. Kalidas Jayaram’s involvement was confirmed after earlier reports of his role. Dhanush’s brother, Selvaraghavan, was rumoured to join the cast in July. In August, Anikha Surendran’s name was added to the list. Dhanush wanted musician Deva to play the villain, but Deva declined. Then, in September, Nithya Menen, who acted alongside Dhanush before, joined the film as the female lead opposite Dhanush. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who previously starred with Dhanush in Maari 2 (2018), also joined the team in an important role.
Filming
Filming began on July 5, 2023. They started shooting the first part in Aditya Ram Studios in Chennai. They filmed scenes that included Suryah and Sundeep during this schedule.
Music
A. R. Rahman will create the music and background scores for the movie. This is the fourth time Rahman has been working with Dhanush. They’ve worked together before on films like Raanjhanaa (2013), Maryan (2013), and Atrangi Re (2021).
