Fighter is a new action movie from India. It’s in Hindi and directed by Siddharth Anand. Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures are making it. The main actors are Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan, and Anil Kapoor. This movie is the first in a series of action movies about flying.
They announced the movie on January 10, 2021. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, getting ready for the movie took a long time. They started filming in November 2022 in places like Assam, Hyderabad, Jammu and Kashmir, and Mumbai. They finished filming in late October. Actual Indian Air Force cadets worked in the movie. The music for the movie was made by Vishal–Shekhar, and there are five songs. Satchith Paulose is the cinematographer, and DNEG is in charge of the visuals.
Initially, they wanted to show the movie in theaters on September 30, 2022. But because of problems during production caused by COVID-19, they had to delay it. Now, they plan to release it in theaters on January 25, 2024, which is the Republic Day weekend.

Production
Development
While filming the movie War in 2019, Siddharth Anand shared the idea of creating a big, action-packed thriller set against the background of fighter jets. Hrithik Roshan, one of the actors, really liked the main idea. When the COVID-19 lockdown happened in India, Anand spent time developing the story. He told Roshan about it, and Roshan agreed to be in the movie. In December 2020, news came out that Siddharth Anand and Hrithik Roshan would be working together again after War (2019).
On January 10, 2021, which is Hrithik Roshan’s birthday, they officially announced the movie called Fighter. It’s India’s first movie about flying and action in the air. It’s the first part of a series of movies. The people making the movie are Siddharth Anand, Jyoti Deshpande, Ajit Andhare, Mamta Anand, Ramon Chibb, and Anku Pande. They are working under Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Pictures. The movie is being made with a budget of ₹250 crore.
Siddharth Anand, the director, said, “We are doing something really different. Indian audiences haven’t seen this before. It’s something new for us. Making a movie like this with the budget we have is almost impossible. We are doing special things, but I can’t talk about them now. I want people to see them when we release the teaser. I hope it blows their minds.” The movie is made for people around the world and will use the latest technology and filming techniques.
Pre-production
Ramon Chibb, a former army officer and writer, worked with Siddharth Anand to create the story for the movie. During the lockdown, Anand and his team of writers turned the story into a screenplay with guidance from Hrithik Roshan. Akshay Oberoi mentioned that the movie has even more intense action scenes than Pathaan (2023). Anand kept most of his usual team, like cinematographer Satchith Paulose, editor Aarif Sheikh, stunt choreographer SeYeong Oh, and action director Sunil Rodrigues. Raj Khatri made the movie posters.
In September 2022, Hrithik Roshan began training for the movie. He did workshops and spent 12 weeks practicing in a simulator to learn how to be a fighter jet pilot. Kris Gethin supervised his training to work on his abs and lose weight. In November, Roshan visited an air base and the Air Force training academy in Telangana. He spent time with pilots and cadets to understand how they act and work.
Real Indian Air Force cadets also worked in the movie. They came from the IAF headquarters in Delhi and the Dundigal Air Force Academy near Hyderabad.
Casting
In January 2021, they officially said that Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan are the main actors in the movie. It’s their first movie together Roshan is playing a character named Patty, who is an officer in the Air Force. Roshan described his character as ‘young, spontaneous, and short-tempered.’ Padukone also plays an Air Force officer and has some action scenes in the movie. Both Padukone and Roshan learned martial arts for their roles. Anil Kapoor joined the group in December 2021. Karan Singh Grover and Akshay Oberoi were added to the cast by November 2022. In March 2023, Talat Aziz joined to play the role of Patty’s father in the movie. In May 2023, Sanjeeda Sheikh was confirmed to play an important role.
Filming
On November 14, 2022, they started taking pictures for the movie in Assam. Roshan, Padukone, and Kapoor were part of this at Tezpur Air Force Station. They finished the first 10-day part in Assam and came back to Mumbai on November 28, 2022.
Next, they went to Kashmir on February 6, 2023, for the second part. Akshay Oberoi also joined then. They came back to Mumbai on February 12 after shooting in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where they did a song and some action scenes.
The third part was at Dundigal Air Force Academy in Hyderabad. This was for shooting Roshan’s character in air force training. They finished this in Hyderabad on March 6.
On March 19, Roshan started filming in a Chembur bungalow in Mumbai for the fourth part. Talat Aziz joined this time, and they did some emotional scenes. It was supposed to finish on April 24. Kapoor shared a video on Instagram showing his workout in freezing temperatures. The team also shot a 25-minute climax scene with action, which took 120 hours (5 days) to shoot.
For the next part, they built an extensive set at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai with classrooms and offices of an air force base. On May 14, they started the next part with Padukone, Roshan, Kapoor, and Grover. From May 19, they shot scenes with Padukone and Kapoor in Chembur, Mysore colony for 3 days. From May 22, they did emotional scenes between Padukone and Roshan in Chandivali, with only 20–30 people around to avoid leaks. The Mumbai part finished in mid-June. Roshan also shot inside a Sukhoi Su-30MKI for over 12 days. Dramatic scenes between Roshan and Kapoor were shot in late August in Mumbai. In early September, they did a song with Roshan and Padukone with everyone, choreographed by Bosco–Caesar. Later, in early October, they finished two songs in Italy. Filming ended on October 30, 2023, at Yash Raj Studios after 87 days of work.
Post-production
After finishing the shooting in early June 2023, the team started working on the movie to make it better. They worked for six months because there were a lot of computer graphics and special effects in the movie. DNEG did the special effects work for the movie.
Music & Release
The music for the movie is made by Vishal–Shekhar. There are five songs in the album, including one that’s emotional. T-Series has the rights to the music.
The first song, ‘Sher Khul Gaye,’ came out on December 15, 2023. The second one, ‘Ishq Jaisa Kuch,’ was released on December 22, 2023. The movie Fighter is set to come out on January 25, 2024, which is also Republic Day.
At first, they said the movie would come out on September 30, 2022, in January 2021. But in October 2022, they decided to release it on January 25, 2024.
