Kung Fu Panda 4 is a new funny cartoon movie made by DreamWorks Animation and coming out soon. It’s the fourth part of the Kung Fu Panda series and comes after Kung Fu Panda 3 from 2016. The movie has many famous actors like Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, and others from the earlier movies, plus some new ones like Awkwafina and Viola Davis.

The idea for this new movie was discussed before the third one came out in 2016. The official announcement for Kung Fu Panda 4 happened in 2022, and they picked the directors and producers by 2023. The actors’ names were mostly revealed in 2023, too, and the movie is set to come out in theaters in the United States on March 8, 2024.

Premise of Kung Fu Panda 4

Po is going to be the big boss in the Valley of Peace. He’s looking for the next Dragon Warrior while dealing with a new enemy named “The Chameleon.”

Director Mike Mitchell stated that Masters Tigress, Monkey, Crane, Mantis, and Viper—known collectively as the Furious Five—will make an appearance in the film and that they are “off on their missions”, with producer Rebecca Huntley confirming that there will be “a glimpse of the Furious Five”.

Development

In 2010, the boss of DreamWorks Animation said they might make three more Kung Fu Panda movies after the third one. In 2016, the directors said they focused on making each movie great and finishing the story well. They said they’d consider more movies if they found a fantastic idea.

In 2022, DreamWorks Animation confirmed they were working on Kung Fu Panda 4. In 2023, they shared more about the movie at a big event. They said who would direct and produce it.

This movie and another one will be among the last made entirely by DreamWorks Animation in their place. Later, they plan to work more with other studios. In 2023, they mentioned Sony Pictures Imageworks would help with some of their future movies.

Writing and animation of Kung Fu Panda 4

Mitchell mentioned Kung Fu Panda 4 as a special message to the first movie. He wanted this new story to be its own thing, even though it’s connected to the other movies. He had big plans for Po, wanting to change how he saw the world and introduce new characters. One of these characters is Zhen, who’s a bit more complicated than Po. Mitchell also wanted a character who would annoy Po, like how Po annoys Shifu.

The bad guy, Chameleon, was meant to be different. Instead of using muscles, she’d use her brain to cause trouble. Mitchell said she’s super intelligent and has powers that make her the most formidable enemy Po has ever faced. He compares her to Po because they are both judged for their appearance but become essential in society. He called Po a hero and Chameleon a villain.

The fights in the movie were going to be excellent. They’d show off new technology and kung fu moves, with some inspiration from anime. People who did stunts for Marvel movies helped out so the animators could make the fights look fantastic.

Casting

In May 2023, they said Awkwafina would be in the movie as a voice. In December 2023, they told everyone that Ke Huy Quan and Viola Davis would also be in the film. Viola Davis will play the wrong person called The Chameleon. Lori Tan Chinn and Ronny Chieng will also be in the movie. Some actors from the earlier movies, like Ian McShane, Bryan Cranston, James Hong, and Dustin Hoffman, will be back, too.

Music

In December 2023, it was said that Hans Zimmer and Steve Mazzaro would make the music for the new movie. Hans Zimmer also created music for the first three movies in the series.
